Around the turn of the 20th century, millions of Britons saw African and Asian people for the first time in strange exhibitions called “Human Zoos.” These once hugely popular shows have been all but forgotten. Booker shortlisted novelist Nadifa Mohamed investigates the stories of the people who took part in these spectacles.
